Trend Alert - Jamaican takeover / Usain Bolt vs.London

Jamaica is going to explode. And not just out the blocks this summer. The vibe has been building since the 30th anniversary of Bob Marley's death last year. Next week the documentary Marley is released (see previous post) and there is a definite upsurge in reggae samples and re-mixes (heard loads on the Craig Charles Funk and Soul show, with Sam Redmore and The Reflex putting out some awesome re-mixes).

Then, of course, the second most famous man to come out of Jamaica, takes centre stage in London this summer...
The worlds eyes and ears are on Jamaica this year, it's a good thing they look and sound so good.

Trend Alert - Surreal by name...

Surrealism is firmly on my radar as a future trend influence. There have been several key exhibitions around the world so far this year (including The Surreal House at the Barbican) and there are also two big Salvador Dali films in the making - currently stalled due to opposition from the Dali foundation. One film, simply titled ‘Dali’ is set to see Antonio Banderas in the lead role, with a second film ‘Dali and I’ due to star Al Pacino. Both films hopefully to be released in 2011. Surrealism has been a constant influence in fashion and there has been some great imagery within magazines recently. Then there was the release of Christopher Nolan’s Inception last month, with its multi-layered, surrealism-laced, dream plot. All I can say is watch this space…

Trend Alert - The Good, The Bad and the down right fashionable!

Due to the hot summer nights we have been having of late, the man and me have been trying to delay bedtime for as long as possible by having old movie marathons! It was the turn of The Good, the Bad and the Ugly this week - can you believe it was the first time we had seen it? Check out this great clip of the films finale, that captures the super cool look and mean stares of Blondie, Tuco and Angel Eyes…

This look has really started to creep in over the last couple of years, with double denim and fringing becoming key trends and I can’t help but feel that there is still more to come. Ralph Lauren is the designer who has drawn inspiration from the Old West more than most over the years and I just love this image from his 1978 ‘Westernwear’ collection… now where can I get me one of those neck ties??
