Hatchards pt2...the Fitzgerald fantasy

...part of my Hatchards book lust experience the other day. These babies deserved a post of their own though. Once again we have Coralie Bickford-Smith to thank for these art deco inspired, printed pleasures. Enjoy...

LFW A/W '11 Holly Fulton

Another season, another amazing collection from Holly Fulton and it was great to see a harder edge to her usual fun, pop style. Once again, her eye for colour and incredible talent for print were at their best here, seen across billowing silk maxis, sixties shifts and sweeping dresses.
Her signature Art Deco cityscape prints were punctured with mesmerising surrealist references - the lips sipping the Empire State Building through straws are great and showcase her great sense of humour.
These clean lines and bold, block colours were a great contrast to the intricate prints within the collection.
Studding, beading and bold jewels offered a harder, alternative look.
i loved this pearl t-shirt and the lip printed wide silk trousers - oozing both sophistcation and humour.

Art Deco Trail

After indulging in my love for Art Deco at the Apollo Victoria Theatre a couple of weeks ago, I decided to take myself on a little Art Deco adventure trail. London isn't mega famous for its Art Deco architecture, but there are some amazing examples dotted around, that are well worth a look. Check out this cute little map from the V&A for an idea of what is where. There are still a few I'm yet to see, but here are a few examples to get you started...

    BBC Broadcasting House, Portland Place
    Adelphi Theatre on the Strand
The Savoy hotel on the Strand
The Daily Telegraph building, Fleet Street
Daily Express Building...the lobby is stunning but not open to the public (boooo!), click here to see more.
The Ideal House National Radiator Company, on the corner of Argyle Street
    The Hoover Building

Indulging in Art Deco...The Apollo Victoria Theatre

As far as art movements go, Art Deco is definitely my favourite. So you can imagine how excited I was when we stepped into the Apollo Victoria on Monday to see Wicked. I found it pretty difficult to concentrate on the musical to begin with, as I was in awe of the beautiful surroundings. I must have looked like a complete loon running around the theatre in the interval, snapping away, as everyone else was indulging in their pre-ordered refreshments! But hey, it was worth missing out on a glass of wine, just to capture this gorgeous theatre.

Black Swan

The already critically acclaimed Black Swan is set to hit our cinema screens this weekend and I can't wait! Having missed the opportunity to see the film at the BFI Film Festival last October, I have been craving the general release ever since. There is a lot of buzz around the film and it is sure to be very inspiring to the fashion and design world, especially if these stunning Art Deco style posters are anything to go by! Unfortunately they are not available to buy as of yet (only used for promotions and displays in cinemas), but hopefully that will change with the success of the film.

The posters are the work of London based design studio La Boca. Check out their portfolio and great blog for more visual treats.

I am finding it impossible to choose my favourite...I love them all!

LFW S/S '11 - Holly Fulton

I love, love, love Holly Fulton and her latest collection only made the feeling stronger! The Art Deco references that are now synonymous with her name were seen across maxi's, simple shift dresses, wrap skirts and wide leg trousers. The gorgeous graphic prints were perfectly paired with plain tees and simple vests, giving a more wearable feel. Colours were bold with canary yellow, azure and sherbet oranges off set by contrasting monotones. Looks like it is going to be a glamorous summer!
More laser cut on the catwalk...don't you just love the Martini glasses??
