Bathroom Oddities

I think the title says it all.  Let us begin.

Q-Tip
When you use a Q-tip for your ear, do you use one for each ear?  You take the one side, clean the ear, and then use the other side to go over again.  Ever notice that there is pretty much nothing on the second pass?  I notice this all the time.

I have tried to just use one Q-tip, one half for each ear, yet my ears do not feel clean afterward.  I really do not have a solution to this problem.  Does anyone else?

Fear of Death
I hate when I am in the shower and there is no one else home and I hear a sound.  Immediately I think that someone might be breaking in and they are going to try and stab me.  Probably from watching horror movies and whatnot.

How do I prepare myself for this inevitable attack?  Naturally, I try to keep my eyes open and on the door.  That means when I rinse my face off, I end up doing it in an odd way.  I keep putting my face in the water and quickly remove it.  The funny thing is that it probably takes longer to do it this way.  I never said I was smart, and come on, at 5:00 a.m. who can really be rational?

Also, if someone were to break in and try to kill me while I am in the shower, what the hell does it matter if my eyes are closed?  What am I going to do, fight them off?  I am naked and wet.  Not really a good combo for hand-to-hand combat.  Yep, I am an idiot.  And I know that everyone has done this kind of thing before.

I like to sing in the shower.  Who doesn't?  Unfortunately there only a few songs that I actually know the majority of the words.

Vintage Festival @ Southbank

The jury's still out on the much anticipated return of Vintage, held this year at the Royal Festival Hall. There have been mixed reviews, but i have to say that i had a ball! Yes, i think that there was more scope for pushing each decades theme a little more (well, a lot more actually), but there was just so much going on that everybody seemed to find their place. Each floor hosted a different decade through music, dance, decor and drink, with loads more extras thrown in. It was really surreal to see such an eclectic combination of fashion and style under one roof, from the 20's right up to the 90's. The man and me performed an initial reccy of the place (with necessary re-fueling stops along the way) before settling in the most amazing 80's living room (more on which later). The river front balcony drew the crowds by nightfall, so much so that the fun was ushered inside after 'structural concerns' were voiced. Just as MJ started getting his 'Off the wall' groove on - major bummer! We did manage to toast the town with our plastic martini glasses before we left though! God, i love London.

North South Divide...a great little pub bringing together northern monkeys and southern wankers! There was plenty of good humoured, animated banter, with accents that got more and more pronounced with every drink!


Then there was the entertainment...i'm a bingo lover at the best of times, but when you throw in some gays with great legs and show tunes, it just explodes!

The Disco...as night fell this balcony was THE place to be. the views over the southbank were stunning. the perfect backdrop for a disco soundtrack and some retro moves...

Wake up and hear the music

Monday morning alarm calls always seem to hurt that little bit more. So imagine how gorgeous it must have been for East Londoner's yesterday morning,  when they were serenaded from sleep by seven musical hot air balloons, floating over the city. This unique project is a collaboration between the London Sky Orchestra, the London International Festival of Theatre, and the Mayor of London's office, marking yearly countdown to the Olympics. So listen out tomorrow morning for a wake up call you won't want to sleep through!

This was the song Josh Harrison used in the minors.  Apparently his brother recorded it for him.  It was pretty cool to hear when he was at Altoona.  Does he still use this for the Pirates?

Record Store Day

I have no means of playing them, but I am still a huge fan of vinyl. I regularly pop into record stores, just to flip through the sleeves and find inspiring covers. So, i’m a real fan of Record Store Day, which is an annual celebration of the resilience of all the independent music stores out there. There are some great gigs organised around this in London today, which are well worth a look if you get chance. Thought this would also be a good excuse to indulge in some of my favourite record covers. Now, it goes without saying that the music is legendary, but what i also love about Led Zeppelin's albums is the amazing art work. Here are two of my favourites...

The Bellinis @ The Vintage Furniture Flea

Now these girls were hot, hot, hot! With a very smooth band to match. The mash-ups they were singing were just awesome...my favourite being a rendition of New York, New York spliced with Alicia Keys Empire State of Mind  - toe tappingly brilliant! You have to hear their vibe - a real glamorous take on modern tunes. I will be seeking them out in the future...
